Liz Stevens

Hi!

I have been working with families for as long as I can remember. Working in social work, as a nanny and volunteering in children’s ministries and programs. I am very passionate about parenthood. I believe each family has a huge responsibility in raising a child and I think that no one should bear that weight alone.

I’ve been privileged with working with over 25 families as a postpartum doula for the last 3 years.

I am originally from Southern California and new to Portland. I love everything about the PNW. I moved with my husband and two children at the beginning of 2021. Becoming a parent pushed me into doula world. After struggling initially with my own postpartum experience, I felt deeply that there had to be a better way. I aim to bring value and joy to every postpartum family I work for as a way to redeem my own experience and make the world better. My children are my greatest teachers. They have given me unique perspectives on the world and helped me grow!

Liz is a compassionate, calm and funny person to be around. When she’s not working with families she can be found cooking, hiking, reading, podcast, travel and relaxing! She loves exploring her new surroundings in beautiful Oregon.

Read what these families have to say about their experience with our lovely doulas.

It is hard to put into words how grateful we were to have Liz as our post partum doula and how amazing she is at the job. Liz is supportive, professional, thoughtful and dedicated. She was everything we could have ever hoped for or wanted in a post partum doula. As first time parents, who were pregnant during the height of the covid pandemic, we knew we would need help - though going into it we didn’t know exactly what kind of help we would even need. Each day Liz came to our house for her shift, she would ask what I needed help with. Most of the time I didn’t really know how to answer, but it didn’t matter because she was able to figure it out without me saying anything. Liz was prompt and very efficient with her time - it was always impressive how much she could get done during her shifts. Liz brought a calming presence into our home. She was a sounding board for anything and everything in our lives for the first two months of parenthood—breastfeeding, baby care, navigating family dynamics, helping our dog adjust to having a baby in the home, how to use a baby carrier, how to pack a diaper bag….No question was too stupid or embarrassing. We didn’t know what it would be like having a stranger in our home, especially during the most vulnerable of times with a newborn during a pandemic, but Liz was so professional and had a way of quickly making us feel comfortable. Having Liz as our doula felt like having your (very knowledgeable) best friend right by your side. She cared for me, my husband and our baby as if she had known us forever. We learned so much from her, and feel so fortunate to have the knowledge she shared with us. My husband and I often joked that we wished she could stay forever. Any family would be so lucky to have Liz as their doula.

Liz is the best! I truly remember my post partum experience so fondly because of her. I had Penelope about two years ago and I had Liz for 6 months and if I could have had her longer I would have requested it. Actually Liz was our second doula...we let the first one go after she was not a good fit for our family. Liz came to us when my daughter was maybe a week old and I remember her coming in the evening and I was crying and so emotional bc I wasn’t producing enough and the baby was inconsolable and she greeted me with a warm hug and just took care of everything. When Liz was at our home, I didn’t worry about anything . She helped us immensely with the baby-latching issues and helped me to keep with a consistent pump schedule as I was a low producer, she helped with bottles, light housework, meals, she came to doctors appointments with me, she helped me get through clogged ducts and almost mastitis, and just kept us all sane. Above everything else, Liz is a good person with a great morale compass. Just talking about her brings a smile to my face. If you hire her, you won’t regret it. You don’t come across people like her a lot(at least I don’t).
